About this role

The Email & Lifecycle Marketing intern joins the Audience Development team to extend KQED’s public media mission into audience-facing digital touchpoints, primarily email and owned channels like KQED.org and 88.5FM. This role executes strategic campaigns and builds audience-first experiences across newsletters and emails. It supports day-to-day lifecycle marketing needs.

Daily tasks include sourcing digital assets, writing copy, building emails, and scheduling sends. Interns track and analyze email performance data against KPIs, sharing findings with stakeholders. They also support owned channels like Google Grants, house ads, and radio cross-promotions.

The intern collaborates closely with the Audience Development Email Marketing Strategist, Marketing Manager, and teams in Content, Membership, Product, IT, and Creative. Work is hybrid between KQED's newly renovated headquarters and remote. KQED centers human dignity, equity, and belonging in its culture.

KQED serves Northern California with community-supported public media, fostering informed decisions, dialogue, arts access, education, and exploration. Interns help reflect the diverse Bay Area through inclusive storytelling.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms and building emails
  • Experience tracking and analyzing performance data with KPIs
  • Knowledge of digital advertising channels like Google Ads
  • Copywriting skills for emails, newsletters, and promotions
  • Understanding of lead-generation tactics and A/B testing
  • Interest in audience development and lifecycle marketing
  • Comfort with digital assets sourcing and scheduling tools

Responsibilities

  • Support newsletter and email development by sourcing digital assets, writing copy, building the email, and scheduling
  • Track, analyze, and measure email performance data against KPIs and share findings with newsletter stakeholders
  • Support execution and reporting on KQED’s owned and earned digital channels including Google Grants via Google Ads, house ads on KQED.org, and copywriting radio cross-promotions
  • Manage inventory and support operations for the KQED Merchandise Kiosk and Photobooth
  • Support optimizing KQED’s email lead-generation tactics across the website and social media platforms
  • Brainstorm ideas for enhancing sign-up experience and help implement A/B testing with various campaigns
  • Help execute strategic campaigns across email and lifecycle marketing
